Why personal branding is starting to feel... not so personal
I was scrolling LinkedIn earlier this week when I had to stop and go back.
Hadn’t I just read this?
Yep. Three different people. Three different posts. Saying the exact same thing. In the same format. Using the same language.
I almost scrolled past - because nothing stood out.
And it made me wonder...
Have we reached the point where personal branding is so structured, so templated, that it’s no longer personal?
What if your personal brand is actually… generic?
The Personal Branding Trap
Some so-called experts will tell you:
You need to post 100 times a week.
You need a perfectly polished profile.
You need to comment on 50 posts a day.
You need to use this framework, this format, talk about these topics.
And yeah - that’s part of your content strategy.
But it’s not personal branding.
A real personal brand isn’t built from checklists.
It’s built from:
Who you are
What you stand for
How the world perceives you
Yes, LinkedIn is a tool. It helps you distribute your message, build connections, and grow your business.
But posting on LinkedIn is not the same as building a personal brand.
So Why Are We Drowning in This Sea of Sameness?
Because quick wins are easier than real depth.
LinkedIn gurus sell templates, making content plug-and-play.
AI tools make it effortless to generate posts.
People chase engagement metrics instead of sharing what actually matters to them.
Yes, frameworks help you get started.
Yes, AI can refine your ideas.
But your personal brand should come from your own experiences, not a copy-paste formula.
If we don’t start injecting our own insights, our own stories, our own voice - this sea of sameness will only grow.
And if everyone sounds the same, what’s the point?
A Thought to Leave You With → Break Free from the Template
What if, for your next post, you ditched the structure?
What if you wrote about what’s actually on your mind - not what an algorithm tells you to post?
What if you shared something you truly believe - without worrying about engagement hacks or formulas?
Would it feel different?
Would it feel more like you?
Try it. See what happens.
Because if you don’t sound like yourself, how will people ever really know you?
That’s it for this week.
See you next Thursday.
Keep building,
A
