1 tool for better, consistent messaging

Over the years, I’ve worked with hundreds of people on developing their key messages.

From media interviews to podcast appearances, to networking events, nailing that key message can make all the difference.

When your message is crystal clear, it helps in every interaction - whether it’s through content, speaking at events or even casual conversations. But here’s the thing: most people struggle to get it right.

Why Your Message Matters

Your personal brand message is the heart of who you are, what you do and why people should connect with you. Here’s why it matters:

  1. Clarity: A solid message cuts through the noise, showing people exactly what you’re about.

  2. Trust: A consistent message builds trust. People work with those they understand.

  3. Opportunities: A great message opens doors - partnerships, speaking gigs and more.

  4. Authenticity: When your message is authentic, it resonates with people on a deeper level.

Common Mistakes People Make

I’ve seen a lot of folks stumble with messaging. Here are the most common mistakes:

  • Being Vague: Trying to be everything to everyone dilutes your message. Be specific.

  • Inconsistency: If you’re giving mixed signals across platforms, people won’t know what you stand for.

  • Making It All About You: Yes, it’s your personal brand, but it’s also about how you solve problems for others.

  • Copying Others: Your voice matters. Mimicking what others say will never work long-term.

  • Not Updating: As you evolve, so should your message. Don’t get stuck with an outdated narrative.

The Solution: The PB Messaging House

Let me introduce you to a tool I use to help clients craft their personal brand message - the PB Messaging House. Think of it as a structured blueprint to ensure your message is clear, consistent and powerful.

How the Messaging House Works:

Roof: Core Message
This is your overarching statement - the single most important thing you want people to remember about your brand.

Example: I help entrepreneurs build unforgettable personal brands to unlock new opportunities.

Pillars: Key Message Areas
These are the 3-5 key areas that support your core message. They might represent your story, values, expertise or unique offerings.

Example Pillars:

  • Your Story: A passion for sport, with 17+ years in marketing.

  • Expertise: Tailored personal brand strategies that work.

  • Values: Authenticity and growth are central to everything I do.

  • Offerings: 1:1 coaching over an 8 week course.

  • Differentiator: AI-driven solutions to maximise branding potential.

Support Beams: Proof Points
Your proof points are tangible examples, case studies or data. They show people you can deliver.

Example: Helped 10+ entrepreneurs increase brand visibility by 50% in 6 months.

Foundation: Call to Action
At the base of your messaging house is the call to action - what do you want people to do after hearing your message? It could be booking a call, signing up for a service or following your content.

Example: Let’s unlock your brand’s potential - schedule a consultation today.

How to Use the Messaging House

Use this framework to organise your personal brand messaging across all touch points - your website, social media, podcasts, speaking engagements and even in conversations. The goal is to be clear and consistent so people know exactly who you are and how you can help.

Your Turn

Take an hour this week to build your own messaging house. Here is a template to help you get started.

Start with your core message, then add your pillars, proof points and foundation. Whether you’re prepping for a podcast, writing content, or heading to a networking event, having your message nailed down will set you apart from the crowd.

Well, that's all for this issue. I hope you enjoyed it.

See you next Thursday.

Keep building,

A
